The 7 Best Patios in KC
Summer may not have officially started yet, but in my mind Memorial Day marks the unofficial start to the season of sunshine. As the days continue to heat up, I find myself looking for a spot to grab a cold one. These are 7 of my favorite patios in Kansas City to enjoy a drink while getting a healthy dose of vitamin D.
1. McCoy's in Westport
The construction of this patio this Winter had Westport-goers eagerly anticipating its completion and dreaming of the warm summer nights to be spent there. Grab one of their beer cocktails - I recommend the Beach Bum (McCoy's light lager, 360 Sorrento Lemon, and Lemonade) or the Wild Child (McCoy's light lager, raspberry vodka, raspberry liqueur, sour, and champagne) - and bring some sunscreen! Trust me, you'll want to be there a while.
2. Affäre in the Crossroads
The courtyard at Affäre is straight out of a fairy tale. Try having brunch in this hidden gem in the heart of the Crossroads this weekend. Order the Kaiserschmarrn (fluffy pancakes, almonds, rum raisins, and caramelized apples) or the Bavarian Sausage Burger (pretzel bun, fried egg, swiss cheese, caramelized onions and fries). Don't forget to add the bottomless Mimosas for just $10!
3. Panache on the Plaza
We all know that Panache has some of the best chocolate in the city, but did you know they have drinks as well? The patio is perfect for people watching while sipping on a Chocolate Truffle Martini or a glass of Amigoni's Urban Vaquero. It's the perfect date night spot for dessert and drinks!
4. Harry's Country Club in River Market
From the outside, Harry's Country Club looks almost like a dive bar (and I mean that as a compliment!), but there is much more than meets the eye. Harry's boasts an expansive patio where you could spend hours soaking up the sun and downing a few drinks. When you get hungry, try the fried bologna sandwich. You'll be transported back to your childhood at first bite.
5. Ça Va in Westport
All of my best memories involve a glass (or two…) of champagne. What better way to celebrate the start of Summer than with a glass of bubbly or rosé? Couples and friends have been flocking to Ça Va since they opened in March of 2014, and the summer months are no exception. Order Moules Frites and ask to do a mussel back when you are finished! A mussel back is a when you chase a sip of champagne with a shot of the broth in which your mussels were cooked. It may sound strange, but don't knock it 'til you try it! It's the perfect combination of salty and sweet and the perfect way to end to your meal.
6. The Jacobson in the Crossroads
The patio at the Jacobson is fun all summer long, but I recommend checking it out on Tiki Tuesday! Every Tuesday from 3pm to close, you can find authentic craft cocktails and leis galore. Little known fact, KC used to be famous for the tiki bars in the area and clearly they are making a comeback! Break out that hula skirt and stop by for the umbrella drink of your summer dreams.
7. Bella Napoli in Brookside
Often seen as residential only, Brookside is actually home to some of my favorite bars and restaurants. One of my absolute favorites is Bella Napoli. The patio may be small, but it is some of the best people watching in town! Order a bottle of your favorite wine and honestly anything on the menu and I promise you won't be disappointed.
